Description:

In this amazing class you will advance your beginning to intermediate fabrication skills to the next level. In 5 days you will learn everything necessary to plan and complete your own bracelet similar to those pictured here.

Learn and practice at least 3 different types of 'silver soldering' plus basic fabrication techniques. By the end of the week, you should have a completed bracelet and the skills to incorporate the techniques you've learned into all your metalsmithing projects. Everyone's bracelet will be different and unique.

You will learn how to work with sterling silver and base metals to achieve some of the following techniques and highlights:

  • Sawing
  • Filing/Sanding/Finishing
  • Riveting/Miniature Hardware
    (Cold Connections)
  • Fusing
  • Dapping/Light Forming
  • Sweat Soldering
  • Pick Soldering
  • Bezel-Setting a Cabochon
  • Soldering Jump Rings
  • Safety
  • Torches (oxy/propane and air/acetylene)
  • Class will also include general discussion of etching, tools, patinas, polishing, roll printing, reticulating silver and so much more (and some of this will no doubt work its way into practice during the class  - depending on the group).

Notes:

  • Everything for all projects is supplied by the instructor, but working with sterling silver, or similar upgrades will be extra (your choice).

  • Completely unique, this class is unavailable anywhere but at the Volcano Arts Studio.

  • * This class requires a certain amount of hand-tool use. If you are unsure about your strength please talk to Christine about it.
